FAQ

Common questions about the Evernote MCP server.

Do I need an API key?
No. The MCP server uses OAuth — you sign in to Evernote in your client and approve access. There are no keys or tokens to manage.
Which clients work?
Any MCP-compatible client over Streamable HTTP with OAuth. We actively test Claude, ChatGPT, Cursor, and Codex — see supported clients.
Can it see all my notes?
It can access exactly what your Evernote account allows — nothing more. You approve access during sign-in.
Is it free?
The MCP server is part of Evernote and follows your existing plan’s access. It’s in beta while we refine it.
Which Evernote plans can use it?
The MCP server is available on paid personal Evernote plans. Free (Basic) accounts aren’t included, and Business and Teams support is coming soon. If your account isn’t eligible yet, you’ll see a message explaining why when you try to connect.
What can it do?
Read, search, and create notes; manage notebooks, tags, and tasks; and handle attachments. See the Tools reference for the full list.
Are there usage limits?
Yes. To keep the service reliable, tool calls are rate-limited per minute — both per tool and across all tools. If you hit a limit, pause briefly and try again; most clients back off and retry automatically.
